Introduce the organization that you will be working for

This semester, I will be interning in the office of Congressman Raul Grijalva in Washington D.C. Congressman Raul M. Grijalva is currently in his sixth term serving constituents in congressional district three. My duties vary from day to day. Some of my daily duties include answering constituent calls, distributing mail, assisting legislative staff with special projects and responding to constituent correspondence. Some of the benefits of interning on the hill include close interaction with the congressman and staff. In addition, I will be getting the opportunity to attend congressional hearings and briefings. I am looking forward to my internship and to the many things that I will be learning in the next 12 weeks.

A glimpse of this week:

On Saturday February 7th, 20 ambitious Latino students (including myself) arrived to DC with hopes and aspirations to grow professionally, expand our network and thrive to become better leaders within our communities. Being surrounded with 19 other ambitious Latinos is better than I imagined. Through the little interaction that I’ve had with some of my cohort, I have learned the obstacles that each one of them has had to overcome to be where they are now. The road for many of us has not been easy, but I am extremely grateful for this opportunity. Thanks to CHCI, I am closer to reaching my dreams!

  1. hey Adriana!
    A) your picture at the capital is super cool, I've always wanted to go and now - seeing you there- I want to go even more! Maybe I'll plan it for my graduation trip
    B) your internship sounds amazing and very involved. Mine is more lower-department, yours seems to higher up and involved with day to day government activities.
    C) To be in your position would be awesome. being able to accomplish all of those things just in your internship - I cant imagine what kind of work you'll actually be doing when you find a career!

  2. Adriana- Wow what an awesome opportunity to have working in Washington D.C. I am quite jealous! It would be so awesome and enriching to be at the center of the country and be where the decisions are made and the power is held. I think it is very cool that you get to be hands on with corresponding to other government employees and hearing about all the legislation that is and will be happening. I wonder if the congressional hearings and briefings are boring or hard to understand sometimes. When watching some meetings on the news, the words can be quite big and complicated which sometimes makes me confused on what they just said lol. Good luck with your internship! Can't wait to hear more about it!

  4. WOOW! What an opportunity! Your internship looks so interesting, specially since its in Washington D.C. Attending congressional meeting in my experience would be one of the most interesting things about your internship after networking with politicians. Best of luck!

  5. Hey Adriana!

What a great opportunity WOW!! I love your picture at the Capital and your position sounds amazing. I am sure it is great to work with like-minds as well as getting to see the many functions of the Congress first hand. Like you said, we both have a lot of the same duties and though they may seem minimal they provide so many skills and the ability to learn so much! Hope your having a great time in D.C. and I look forward to hearing more about your position!

  9. Adriana,
Best of luck with this internship, I've had the opportunity to collaborate with the Congressman's office on a few issues and he is always willing to help out young leaders. His district has a large Latino population and it is good to hear that you will be working on the Hispanic Caucus, there are many new challenges facing the Hispanic population today and I'm sure this internship will allow you to work on solving many of them.
